News Letters Will Be Wrote up Here

Dear Parents and Children

The past few months have been busy for the members of 3rd St Budeaux with the arrival of our new Scout Leader Keith Weeks and an increase in numbers of children in the Group. We held a successful Sleepover in August and the Scouts enjoyed a visit to the County Camp at Woodlands. This month the Beavers and Cubs have enjoyed visits to Crownhill Police Station and Camel’s Head Fire Station. Scouts have also visited the Fire Station as part of their badge work.

We must also congratulate Stephen and Desmond who will shortly be awarded their Gold Chief Scout Awards(Click Here for Photo's). Jamie B in the Beavers has also gained his Bronze Chief Scout Award and we hope that others will achieve the same in due course.

As you know 3rd St Budeaux scout group are very fortunate to have sole use of the campsite, just outside the village of Bickleigh on the edges of Dartmoor, situated near the river shaugh, and within easy reach of the plym trial.Sadly due to vandalism and poor maintenance over a number of years, the hut for the kitchen and storage in the lower field is now in poor state of repair.

It’s proposed that we, as a troop with the aid and assistance of all parents of the members of the group, hold a week-end of repairs to the building in the first week of August. This is the 1st and 2nd of August. A large amount of building materials are already 'in situ' due to a generous donation of £100 given to the troop with express wish it to be used for the campsite. Unfortunately, without the help of parents and carers, our troop will be unable to use the campsite for week-end camps and we face the possibility of not having the campsite at all.

This would be a shame as every troop member benefits in their own individual way from the woodland and open fields to use and explore. This aids them in various Badges, e.g. backwoods camping, cooking and nature ,Observation/environment friendly badges

Ian both urge you to please to help us to continue the scouting activities that can be done at the site, it allows a strong basis should your children wish to participate in the duke of Edinburgh’s award scheme when aged 14 years old, and to appreciate such natural beauty so close to the city of Plymouth.

Many Thanks

Ian Burdett (G.S.L)
